Welcome from the Director

I am honored to join Georgetown University as Faculty Director of the Fellowship for the Common Good, and I want to introduce myself and this program directly.

My name is Melissa L. Bradley. I have spent more than 30 years at the intersection of entrepreneurship, capital, and policy. I have served in the Clinton and Obama administrations, built ventures, led funds, and taught at Georgetown’s McDonough School of Business. I have worked with more than 5,000 founders and helped generate over $1 billion in wealth creation. Across all of it, the question I keep returning to is the same one this fellowship is built around: What does it mean to apply your full expertise toward something that outlasts you?

That is not a rhetorical question. The Fellowship for the Common Good is a structured, rigorous answer to it.

This program is for leaders who have accomplished what they set out to accomplish and who are ready for the work that comes next. Not retirement. Not consulting. A genuine Purpose Plan, built with the support of Georgetown scholars, Washington policymakers, and a cohort of peers who take the question as seriously as you do.

The Georgetown difference is real. No other institution combines the intellectual depth of Jesuit education, the proximity of a D.C. campus and the access that comes with both. Briefings from senior policymakers. Immersions at federal agencies, NGOs and think tanks. Full integration into Georgetown’s academic life. And a values framework, rooted in Ignatian principles, that asks not just what you will do, but who you intend to be doing it.

I believe your experience is not background. It is the asset. This fellowship is designed to deploy it.
